1976-77 Geological Survey of Canada
1974-76 Shell Canada Resources
1973-74 Alberta Department of Environment

2005- present CONSULTANT, CANADA

1997-2005 SAUDI ARAMCO, SAUDI ARABIA

Senior Research Consultant, Regional stratigraphic and basin analysis studies of deep gas reservoirs of the Arabian Plate. My projects ranged from those that were designed for the exploration, characterization and the exploitation of these reservoirs. Modern concepts of sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology and reservoir properties were extensively applied. I was also involved in an ongoing and formal program of training of local Saudi geologists.

1990-1996 SIRTE OIL CO., LIBYA

Senior Staff Geologist.
Regional stratigraphic studies of Western Libya Paleozoic Intracratonic Basins. Conduct sedimentologic/stratigraphic and reservoir sedimentology studies on clastic sequences utilizing electric logs, cores and surface geology. Made detailed sedimentologic analysis of fluviatile, deltaic, shoreline and offshore sandstone reservoirs. I was also conducting a two years study of the stratigraphy, sedimentology and reservoir quality evaluation of the Upper Ordovician clastic glacimarine deposit in western Libya. Evolving concepts of sequence stratigraphy were successfully applied to the study of these strata. Basin analysis and hydrocarbon assessment. I was involved in training of local Libyan geologists

1982-1990 CANADIAN HUNTER EXPLORATION. LTD, CANADA

Exploration Advisor And Senior Research Geologist Conducted applied research on the various aspects of clastic reservoirs, such as stratigraphy, depositional environments, facies analysis, diagenesis, and hydrocarbon productivity assessment. Regional stratigraphic/sedimentologic studies of clastic reservoirs in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. Advised exploration staff and management on various aspects of clastic stratigraphic trapping. Conducted in-house clastic reservoir courses and field trips.

1978-1982 ALBERTA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, CANADA.

Manager Of Sedimentary Geology Section and Associate Research Officer,Research activities of the section consisted of the study of the stratigraphy, sedimentology, palynology and ichnology (trace fossils) of the coal-bearing Mesozoic strata of Alberta. My personal research consisted of the detailed study of the sedimentology of an Upper Cretaceous coal-bearing clastic sequence. This study resulted in the establishment of sedimentary models for coal exploration in tidally-dominated estuaries and barrier islands. Data for this study consisted of surface measured sections, subsurface geophysical logs and extensive collection of cores.

1977-1978 KUWAIT INSTITUTE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, KUWAIT.

Associate Research Scientist,Initiated and conducted research in applied stratigraphy/sedimentology of energy resources, source rock geochemistry and construction material.

1976-1977 GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CANADA, CANADA.

Research Scientist, Research on the stratigraphy, sedimentology of hydrocarbon and coal-bearig rocks of the Mesozoic System of the western Sverdrup Basin of Arctic Canada. Data for this research consisted of surface measured stratigraphic sections and subsurface borehole material.

1974-1976 , SHELL CANADA RESOURCES, CANADA

Exploration Geologist, Oil and gas play generation through detailed stratigraphic and sedimentologic analysis of the Mesozoic clastic strata of Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This work involved the extensive utilization of cores and geophysical logs.

1973-1974 , ALBERTA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT, CANADA.

GeologistSpecial research projects on the environmental geology of groundwater, hydrocarbon, sanitary landfills, and subsurface waste disposal and storage.

PUBLICATIONS

  • Several publications in sedimentology, stratigraphy and petroleum geology, published in internationally refereed journals
  • Edited and co-edited two sedimentology special publications.
  • Presented several talks in international petroleum geology and specialized conferences and symposia.
  • Chaired a number of sedimentology symposia in international geological conferences.
